The North Pacific sub-tropical gyre, also, dubbed “the Asian Trash Trail” the “Trash Vortex” or the “Eastern Garbage Patch”, is a appalling example of man not taking care of the Earth he has been given by the grand Creator of all. Located not that far north of Hawaii, is this man-made floating island, at least the size of Texas and some say its already twice that size.

How does that affect us? More than we can ever realize. Rather than have me go on and summarize these articles, go to and http://shttp://www.greenpeace.org/international/campaigns/oceans/pollution/trash-vortex?MM_URL=http://oceans.greenpeace.org/en/our-oceans/pollution/trash-vortexeattletimes.nwsource.com/html/pacificnw04232006/coverstory.html  , and read the articles for yourself.

We have a beautiful planet; glorious places to visit and enjoy. However, if we don’t take action, if we don’t join together and perhaps forgo our insatiable need for convenience and “throw aways,” we will not have pristine beaches to enjoy or sea animals to watch in awe. They will be gone!

Take a look at the map at http://oceans.greenpeace.org/en/the-expedition/news/trashing-our-oceans/ocean_pollution_animation . Scroll to the expected outlook for 6 years from now and how it is expected to grow. It’s getting serious in our lifetime, Folks, and, if this is happening now, what will our  grandchildren have to look forward to?  Currents shown, also, affect our weather patterns. This just isn’t a garbage concern and a wildlife concern, it now becomes a global environmental/weather concern.

Just one example of wildlife being affected: Fulmars, beautiful birds that seldom come into land areas except to take care of their young, are dying on beaches on our West Coast because of all the plastic they are ingesting at sea. They can’t distinguish between garbage and real food so the garbage, especially plastic refuse, kills them. It’s is heart-rending. And, not all plastic garbage floats. Much of it sinks and the garbage, tons and tons of it with it’s chemical compounds, kills, smothers, marine life at the bottom of the seas.

It is said that if only 11% of the population will do something to help a cause, it will be successful.  It’s not too late. Let’s all do our part to Live Green. Here is a little 1 minute video for you. Hope you enjoy, Donna

“The crises facing our planet can be overwhelming. But it is not too late for change,” says Van Jones, a respected social justice leader. In this inspiring video, he shares that change begins with a worldview that says we’re not going to leave anyone behind. Together, we can make the shift beyond a throw-away culture to a world in which everything is respected as sacred.

I just had to post on the article that was written on all the travel destinations that are now endangered because of Global Warming. Go here to read the article: http://travel.msn.com/Guides/greenarticle.aspx?cp-documentid=387810
And great slide show: http://travel.msn.com/Guides/greenSlideShow.aspx?cp-documentid=385955

Now that many of us empty-nest boomers are able to travel, we are facing the possibility that the destinations we have always dreamed of seeing may not be as we once pictured in our minds or saw in travel magazines and Natonal Geographics. And, this tragic story doesn’t end with us. This will affect our grandchildren, their children…unless we do something NOW!! Let’s take care of the Earth. We can all help-Live Green.

Have a beautiful, happy Sunday,
Donna

There are many pros and cons on a lot of subjects, Global Warming and the environment being one of them. There are still many skeptics. All one has to do is go on forums and on-line chat rooms. There are many debates regarding the reality of Global Warming. I am just pleased that there are so many experts that look at this issue as something to take very seriously.

Taking care of the earth and being good stewards is just something we should be doing anyway-God commanded it in Genesis 2:15: My Post 4-21. Not taking care of it and continue debating Global Warming could lead to an irreversible disaster in the coming years.

Skeptics, I ask you: Is it really worth the debate? Why even take  a chance with our children and grandchildren’s future? Why take the chance of even more animals facing extinction than are already on the endangered list about to join those that are already gone never to be seen again? That’s a tragedy.

Just think about it, will you?

Peace to you, Donna

This post is dedicated to the upcoming Earth Day tomorrow, April 22nd. I can’t help but put a little spiritual slant to my post since I’m a minister. I’m not going to preach to you; however, in order to truly Live in Joy on this beautiful planet we all call home, our home has to be the best we can possibly help to make it. Why?

Remember the scripture in Genesis 2:15, says.”Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.”

That word “keep” in Hebrew is a very special word. It means to care for something so gently and completely. It means to make sure that no harm comes to it, to cherish it as a mother for her baby. That was the command that God gave to man. That was man’s responsibility, which is now our responsibility collectively.

Let’s all take notice of the things that are happening to our “home” which is the only one we have, and do what we can to “keep it.” What we do to the earth, we do to ourselves. Let’s make sure we do our part and give our children, grandchildren, and future generations to come a beautiful, safe, healthy world in which to live and enjoy life as we have had the privilege of doing.

We can stop Global Warming or at least slow it down so we have a chance to make things better and keep the earth beautiful; however, we can only make a difference by working together and making changes NOW. As one little girl said at the end of 20/20 last night hosted by Diane Sawyer, “Be nice to the earth.” She couldn’t have said it any better. As the scriptures tell us, “And a child shall lead them.”

God bless you,
Pastor Donna

There is so much support this month for getting the word out about the environment. Have you seen the slide show on www.msn.com showing  locations around the globe affected by global warming? One shows polar bears hanging on to what almost looks like a giant ice scupture in the ocean. There is no other ice anywhere in the vast waters around this piece of ice the polar bear are clinging to. It is heart rending.

My husband was discussing this same slide show with a lady standing in line at the post office. She, too, saw it and said she shed tears for the situation.  Other pictures show Mt. Kilimanjaro almost totally without snow and ice. Go to the site and see the all pictures yourself. Only if you see them yourself will you appreciate the magnitude of the situation.

Amazingly there are 78,000 people in the US alone over the age of 100.  Longevity is something that everyone is seeking. Imagine, though, if you will, what that means for our children and grandchildren. What will their future be like if we don’t do something NOW? “If” they live to be 100, they will live into the 22nd century, past 2100, which is the year experts say, if we don’t do something now, the environment could reach a point of absolute dire circumstances.

By the way, mark your calendar for for this coming Friday and tune into ABC TV. From Good Morning America to 20/20, TV shows will be focusing, gratefully, on the issue of Global Warming and what we can do for the environment and our home, Planet Earth.

More tomorrow…..Live Green…

God bless, Donna

The news has been full of reports and announcements regarding Global Warming of late. Sydney, Australia, encouraged a period of time for shutting off all electectricty this last week to give awareness to the issue. Some restaurants even offered candle lit dinners to their patrons in order to participate.

Today,  www.msnbc.msn.com has an article at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17889856/ , “Climate Report: ‘Highway to Extinction,'” reporting on “dire predictions include loss of species, increasing scarcity of water.” The report says “global warming has already degraded conditions for many species, coastal areas and poor people. With a more that 90 percent level of confidence, the scientists in the draft report say man-made global warming over the last three decades has had a discernable influence on many physical and biological systems.”

Go there today and read the article. It says that if just 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit, or 1 degree Celcius is added to the average temperature, “between 400 million and 1.7 billion extra people can’t get enough water, some infectious diseases and allergenic pollens rise, and some amphibians go extinct… This is the likely outcome for 2020, according to the draft.” If it rises a bit further, the scientists say that depending on the level of greenhouse gases-CO2’s, people will start dying of malnutrition, more diseases, and drastic inclimate weather will result.

Scientists, however, are optimistic because they say the populace will  reduce CO2 emissions that cause Global Warming. As oceanographer and top author of the 2001 report James Mccarthy says, ” The worst stuff won’t happen because we can’t be that stupid.” Let’s all smarten up and “Live Green” for the sake of our grandchildren and the worl in which they will be living.

Health and happiness to you,

Donna

I was going to continue with yesterday’s subject; however, I read something today that I thought I would share with you.

I love old books. And, I was reading something that was written of a man who was a lawyer over a hundred years ago. His name was Allen B. Seamen. He was a large man, and known far and wide for his undieing honesty. Back at the beginning of the 20th century, his business colleagues would not hesitate to loan him “$20,000.00 or more without a scrap of writing passing between parties,” which was quite a sum 107 years ago.

Besides being a man of law and business, Seaman was a lover of books, art, and “everything beautiful.” He helped many a person in need. When he was writing out his will, he wrote two of them. One was for of his personal belongings and affairs. The other was of his sentiments for people who would come after him listed in seven “items.” All the listings were an expression of love and care for all humankind in every age group; however, “item 2” is what I wish to share here:

“I leave to children inclusively for the time of their childhood, all, and every, the flowers of the field, and the blossoms of the field, and the blossoms of the woods, with the right to play among them freely, according to the custom of children…And I wish for children, the banks of the brooks, and the golden sands beneath the oceans, and the odors of the willows that dip within the streams, and the white clouds that float high over the giant trees.”

Over a hundred years ago, I doubt very much that men anticipated that the environment would be in jeapordy. They probably did not imagine that their great, great grandchildren would have brooks, rivers, oceans, and air that would be in danger from pollution, or that global warming would be seriously affecting the environment.

What will we wish for our great, great grandchildren? I know we all wish for them a world with a beautiful future with clean, clear oceans, clear babbling brooks and fish filled rivers,  and beautiful skies just as Mr. Seaman wanted for us.

In order for that to happen, however, we have to take steps NOW. Join with us. Live Green and sign on today to get Solar Energy for your home.

Go to www.fuelnews.info to learn more and call us to discover how you can be part of the solution.
